Patti Lucas Hopkins - Maryland Artist

ABOUT PATTI LUCAS HOPKINS

I am an oil painter and my style is representational. My paintings are what I love and live around. I try to capture scenes in my natural surroundings.

ENVIRONMENT

Patti Lucas Hopkins. Maryland artistI live on a farm on the Little Choptank River on Marylandʼs Eastern Shore, with my husband, dogs, and chickens, surrounded by wild geese, deer, fox and wild turkeys. With a passion for the land and water around me, I am developing my oil paintings to express that environment. I take inspiration from the changing seasons, the cycle of crops, migrations and human activities such as working the water, sailing, and hunting.

During the spring and summer months I paint in the outdoors and sometimes execute a work at one pass, but many times I finish the piece in my studio. In the fall and winter months I paint from my photos indoors. I hope all of my paintings tell a story and that the viewer enjoys them as much as I do creating them.

INSPIRATION

I admire the Hudson River School painters, Cape Cod School of Art painters, Winslow Homer, Edgar Payne, the Wyeths and many Impressionist artists.

To broaden my experience I continue to participate in workshops with various renowned local and regional professionals as well as nationally known artists.

MEMBERSHIP

I am a member of the Working Artist Forum in Easton, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, Plein Air Painters of the Chesapeake Bay, Academy Art Museum, and Dorchester Center for the Arts.
